Toothfairy Deadline
So Mason lost his second tooth today (yes, he's late with that, like his mom). I asked if he planned to put his tooth under his pillow tonight. Mason says "Yeah, but I better hurry. You know, you have to get your tooth under your pillow by 11:00 or else the tooth fairy won't come!"
Opie
For whatever reason, I stopped to watch Andy Griffith the other day...I think it was because the scene was one where Andy was scolding Opie for holding back money from the offering to buy something for his little girlfriend..."and you go to your room and think about this and don't expect any dessert and..." And after Aunt Bee scolded Andy, he invites Opie to the dinner table. Andy apologizes to Opie for being so harsh..."I suppose every now and then you can use your money to buy a girl flowers or popcorn at the movies...but" Opie says "no, Pa, I planned to buy her a new coat...her old one is getting old, she said her Pa didn't have the money for a new one." Made me smile.

A favorite memory - Cinco
When Mason started kindergarten a couple of years ago, I remember asking him, as we walked home from the bus stop, what he had learned that day. He said "I learned Cinco!" Of course, I followed with "so what does cinco mean?"...he thought a moment...and said "I don't know...we didn't learn that part!"
Even funnier, the next morning I was relaying this story to a couple of other mothers at the bus stop as we shared "first day" stories. As I was finishing the story about "the meaning of cinco" one of the ladies standing near me, looked at me with such pity, leaned in, cupped her hands around her mouth, (and I assume in an attempt to help me out) whispered "it means ten."
